Recommended Action
RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends that the City Council receive a status update on the Juvenile Diversion Project and approve Resolution No. 21-0047 approving a three-year agreement for a not-to-exceed amount of $150,000 ($50,000, annually) for the Juvenile Diversion Project (JDP).
Body
FISCAL IMPLICATIONS:
There are no fiscal implications associated with the recommended action as this item was budgeted and accounted for.
BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION:
The City entered into a contract with the Beach Cities Health District in 2021 to provide a JDP for the residents of Manhattan Beach and the students of the Manhattan Beach Unified School District. The JDP is an intervention process that addresses offenses committed by young offenders up to the age of 23, directing them away from involvement with the criminal courts. The objectives are to hold youth fully accountable and prevent recidivism without the stigma and far reaching entanglements that accompany entry into the criminal justice system.
Amendment No. 1 to the contract extends the term of the contract for a period of three years with an amount not to exceed $150,000.
LEGAL REVIEW:
The City Attorney has approved the agreement as to form.
