Recommended Action
RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends that the City Council discuss and provide direction regarding the request by Councilmember Stern and Councilmember Hersman to discuss conducting an additional community forum regarding Policing and Partnerships in Manhattan Beach at a future City Council meeting. Body

FISCAL IMPLICATIONS:
There are no fiscal implications associated with the recommended action.

BACKGROUND:
On July 9, 2020, City Council conducted a community forum regarding Policing and Partnerships in Manhattan Beach. At a subsequent meeting on September 15, 2020, Councilmembers Stern and Hersman requested to discuss conducting an additional community forum regarding the same topic at a future City Council meeting.

Accordingly, individual Councilmembers can initiate future agenda items by following the following three-step process:

STEP ONE:
During "Future Agenda Items," on September 15, 2020, Councilmember Stern requested that an item be placed on the agenda. Councilmember Hersman concurred with placing the item on the agenda.

STEP TWO:
After discussion, the City Council has the following options:
a) Receive and File the report.
b) Direct staff to perform the necessary work to prepare a more comprehensive staff report and schedule the item (in this case, a second forum) for a future City Council meeting.
c) Continue the request to a future date.

STEP THREE:
If City Council chooses option b) in Step Two above, a forum will be scheduled.
