RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends that the City Council approve the donation of one surplus vehicle to the Manhattan Beach Unified School District.

FISCAL IMPLICATIONS:
This vehicle, a 2002 Ford Ranger utility bed truck, has a value of approximately $2,000.
BACKGROUND:
A Public Works vehicle, a 2002 Ford Ranger, was taken out of service in 2015 as part of the City's on-going fleet replacement program. At that time, the vehicle, which was still serviceable for limited duty, was re-assigned to the Water Division where it was used for meter checks and reads. Prior to being re-assigned, the Ranger was used in the Sewer Division for thirteen years as one of the parking meters coin collection trucks.
Through the City's fleet replacement program, a more serviceable vehicle (previously in front-line service) is now available to meet the needs of the Water Division. As a result, the 2002 Ford Ranger will be removed from service. Standard procedure is to auction the vehicle for the best attainable value as required by the City's Municipal Code, however, this requirement may be waived by the City Council. The Manhattan Beach Unified School District (MBUSD) is in need of the vehicle and has requested that it be donated to them for their use.
DISCUSSION:
Staff has received a request from the MBUSD's Maintenance and Operations Department to donate the surplus Ranger for use as a maintenance vehicle for repairs and maintenance at school facilities. While the City typically sells surplus property for the best attainable value, the City has als...
