Recommended Action
RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends that the City Council adopt Resolution No. 19-0012 approving Amendment No. 2 to the Agreement with Contemporary Services Corporation to provide event security services in the amount of $145,000.

FISCAL IMPLICATIONS:
There are no fiscal implications associated with the recommended action. Sufficient funds are currently budgeted in the Police Department budget for event security services.

BACKGROUND:
The Police Department makes every effort to ensure the safety of our community during large-scale events. Since 2007, the City has contracted with Contemporary Services Corporation (CSC) to augment Police staffing for special events; CSC provides unarmed event security and traffic control services at events such as the Holiday Fireworks, Manhattan Beach 10k Run, Grand Prix Bike Race, Tour de Pier, Surf Festival/6-Man Volleyball, Hometown Fair, and Pumpkin Races. CSC's staff are well-versed in crowd and traffic control and perimeter security; their presence helps to provide a visual deterrent for inappropriate behavior and criminal activity.

The current agreement with CSC was executed on December 4, 2013 and took effect on January 1, 2014. The agreement has an initial term of four years, with two optional one-year extensions.
