Recommended Action
RECOMMENDATION:
Adopt Resolution No. 17-0117 accepting the State of California Office of Traffic Safety Selective Enforcement Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP) Grant in the amount of $200,000; authorize the City Manager to appropriate $200,000, which will later be reimbursed by grant funds.

FISCAL IMPLICATIONS:
There is no net fiscal impact associated with the recommended action. The $200,000 appropriation will be fully reimbursed by the Office of Traffic Safety grant revenue. There is no funding match requirement.

BACKGROUND:
In support of the City's efforts to improve traffic safety and reduce traffic collisions, the Manhattan Beach Police Department applied for a grant from the State of California Office of Traffic Safety for a one-year Selective Traffic Enforcement Program.

DISCUSSION:
The Manhattan Beach Police Department was awarded a $200,000 grant from the Office of Traffic Safety to enhance traffic enforcement and education efforts. Grant funding will provide training to officers in Standardized Field Sobriety Testing and Advanced Roadside Impaired Driving Enforcement. Grant activities include conducting Driving while Under the Influence (DUI) checkpoints and special enforcement operations, providing concentrated enforcement in areas where drivers frequently speed and intersections where traffic collisions often occur, conducting pedestrian and bicycle safety details, conducting distr...
