Recommended Action
RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends that the City Council adopt Ordinance No. 17-0017 revising the number of members on the Library Commission and Cultural Arts Commission from five members to six members.

FISCAL IMPLICATIONS:
There are no fiscal implications associated with the recommended action.

BACKGROUND:
At the May 2, 2017 City Council adjourned regular meeting, the City Council adopted Resolution No. 17-0059 amending the membership requirements for the Parks and Recreation Commission, Library Commission, and Cultural Arts Commission. Specifically, Resolution No. 17-0059: 1) Refined language for the student representative seat on the Parks and Recreation Commission to open the opportunity to all High School Students, 2) Added a student representative seat to the Library Commission, and 3) Added a student representative seat to the Cultural Arts Commission.

At the August 15, 2017 City Council meeting, the City Council approved the modernized and updated Boards and Commissions Handbook. Through adopting Resolution No 17-0059 and approving the Handbook the City Council needed to amend the Municipal Code to reflect the revised number of members on the Library Commission and Cultural Arts Commission from five members to six members.

Therefore, at the same meeting, City Council conducted the first reading of Ordinance No. 17-0017 to maintain policy consistencies between Resolution No. 17-0059 and the Manhattan ...
