Recommended Action

RECOMMENDATION:

As per City Council Direction at the May 16, 2017 City Council Meeting staff recommends that the City Council discuss and approve the revised City Council Assignments.

Body
FISCAL IMPLICATIONS:

No fiscal implications associated with the recommended action.

BACKGROUND:

City Council Assignments are the discretionary responsibility of each Mayor to review the standing list of assignments to various government and community-related committees and make changes as he or she feels are necessary.

At the May 16, 2017 City Council meeting, Councilmember Montgomery and Mayor Lesser requested to assign a delegate and an alternate Councilmember that would report to the Manhattan Beach Community Emergency Response Team (C.E.R.T.). Customarily, City Council approves each assignment at the City Council reorganization, however, due to City Council’s direction, staff has prepared the amended City Council Assignments, for City Council consideration.

DISCUSSION:

At the request of Mayor Lesser, revisions have been made to the City Council assignment list that includes adding C.E.R.T. under Civic Organizations and reflecting City Council’s direction to appoint Councilmember Montgomery as the delegate and Mayor Lesser as the alternate.

Due to the City being a member of the California Contract Cities Association (CCCA), Mayor Lesser requested the inclusion of CCCA under Regional/State Government for the Council Assignments to allow for a City Council discussion in order to assign a delegate and an alternate Councilmember that would report to the CCCA.

POLICY ALTERNATIVES:
Not applicable.
