RECOMMENDATION:
Receive report regarding Southern California Gas Company’s Playa del Rey Natural Gas Storage Facility.
DISCUSSION:
The Southern California Gas Company (SoCalGas) currently operates a 2.6 billion cubic feet natural gas storage facility located 6100 feet below Playa del Rey, which is an area that includes the Ballona Wetlands, Marina del Rey and is adjacent to LAX Airport. The City Council has requested that SoCalGas make a presentation about the facility. Mike Harriel, South Bay Public Affairs Manager for SoCalGas will be presenting a PowerPoint Presentation (Attachment #1) on the past, current and planned safety measures implemented at the Playa del Rey Natural Gas Storage Facility.
