Recommended Action
RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends that City Council approve the cancellation of the August 5, 2014 City Council Meeting.
Body
FISCAL IMPLICATIONS:
There are no fiscal implications associated with the recommended action.

BACKGROUND:
Currently, the Manhattan Beach Municipal Code (MBMC) provides that City Council meetings shall be held on the first and third Tuesday of each calendar month.   On July 3, 2007 the City Council adopted Ordinance No. 2104, which provides flexibility to reschedule or cancel any regular Council meeting by minute action.

DISCUSSION:
In the past, the City has gone dark twice a year, with the exception of the last couple of years.  One meeting has been canceled in August and one around the end of year during the holiday season. This practice enables many people to plan vacation schedules around this time and also allows staff to catch up on projects.  It is recommended that City Council cancel the first meeting in August (August 5, 2014) for a summer break.

CONCLUSION:
Due to scheduled absences of key individuals and to allow for vacation planning, it is recommended that the City Council approve the cancellation of the August 5, 2014 Regular City Council Meeting.
