Recommended Action
RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends that the City Council approve the donation of one surplus Ford Crown Victoria Police Interceptor to the El Camino College Police Department.

FISCAL IMPLICATIONS:
This vehicle, which has been retired from City service, has a total market value of approximately $4,000.

DISCUSSION:
This Police Department Administration vehicle, a 2002 Ford Crown Victoria Police Interceptor, was replaced last calendar year with a like vehicle as part of the City's fleet replacement program. As a result, this vehicle is surplus, ready to be auctioned for the best attainable value.

Staff has received a request from the El Camino College Police Department (ECPD) (Attachment #1) to donate this surplus vehicle for their use. In the past, the City has donated surplus property to this organization (with City Council approval) to support their efforts towards maintaining a safe campus environment. The most recent donation, in February 2013, was a 2004 Ford Expedition sport utility vehicle. The City has also donated vehicles and equipment to other organizations in the past, including Manhattan Beach Unified School District, Community Emergency Response Team, and sister city Santa Rosalia, Mexico.
