Recommended Action
RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends that the City Council approve the donation of one surplus Chevrolet Tahoe sport utility vehicle to the Manhattan Beach Community Emergency Response Team (CERT).

FISCAL IMPLICATIONS:
This vehicle, which has been retired from City service, has a total market value of approximately $1,400.

DISCUSSION:
This Fire Department vehicle, a 1999 Chevrolet Tahoe, was replaced last calendar year as part of the City's fleet replacement program. Build out of the new vehicle was recently completed. As a result, the 1999 Tahoe has been removed from service and is ready to be auctioned for the best attainable value.

Staff has received a request from the Manhattan Beach Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) (Attachment #1) to donate this surplus vehicle for their use (the CERT letter also refers to donation of two utility trucks, which City Council approved and have already been donated to CERT). In the past, the City has donated surplus property to this organization to support their efforts to serve the community during times of emergency. The most recent donations in January 2014 were a 1995 and a 2005 Ford F250 utility trucks. The City has also donated vehicles and equipment to other organizations, including El Camino College, Manhattan Beach Unified School District and sister city Santa Rosalia, Mexico.
