RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends that the City Council recognize businesses that have been providing longstanding business operations and services to the community for a number of years.

FISCAL IMPLICATIONS:
Sufficient funding is available in the Finance Department budget for the plaques, certificates and related supplies.

BACKGROUND:
The City Council established an award program to recognize and applaud longstanding businesses that have continuously maintained a commercially-zoned premise providing services to our community for many years.

On May 1, 2018, the City Council updated the Longstanding Business Award Program by identifying five incremental milestones recognizing 10, 25, 30, 40, and 50 years of continuous service. On September 9, 2021, the City Council directed staff to further expand the Program by including additional milestone years of 5, 15 and 20 years.

On December 2, 2025, staff presented options to the City Council to consider updating the program milestones. Based on feedback received, the 2025 Recognition Award program was maintained as-is with one additional milestone added for over 75 years of service. Additionally, the City Council directed staff to work with the Chamber of Commerce to explore further updates and ways to refresh the award program in the future.

Based on the historical changes to the award program, the City now recognizes nine (9) incremental milestones of 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 40, 50 and over 75 years of continuous service in the community.
