Staff recommends that the City Council approve the City Council Assignments.

BACKGROUND:
At the City Council meeting of August 5, 2025, the City Council conducted its annual reorganization and appointed Mayor Lesser and Mayor Pro Tem Franklin.

It is the discretionary responsibility of each Mayor to review the standing list of City Council assignments to various governmental, regional, and community-related committees and propose updates as needed. These proposed assignments are then presented to the full City Council for consideration and approval.

At the time of the 2025 reorganization, the "Adopt a School" assignments were not included in the standing list of City Council Assignments, as they had been removed during the June 21, 2022, approval of assignments.

The City Council Assignments submitted by Mayor Lesser, including updates responsive to 2025 requests and 2026 City Council direction, are attached for City Council review.

DISCUSSION:
At the December 2, 2025, City Council Meeting, Mayor David Lesser and Councilmember Amy Howorth, requested for staff to agendize for a third vote, the consideration of the reintroduction of the Manhattan Beach Unified School District (MBUSD) Schools to the City Council Assignments. Consequently, at the December 16, 2025, City Council meeting, Councilmember Nina Tarnay was the third vote for staff to return with additional details and for City Council to discuss.
