RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends that the City Council:
1) Formally accept as complete the Aneen Construction, Inc. (Aneen) construction agreement for the Joslyn Center Crosswalk Improvement Project;
2) Authorize the filing of the Notice of Completion with the County Recorder; and
3) Authorize the release of the retention of $56,699.65 to Aneen Construction, Inc.
FISCAL IMPLICATIONS:
The construction agreement with Aneen for the Joslyn Center Crosswalk Improvement Project was awarded for $961,140, with an authorized contingency amount of $173,005. Two change orders were authorized on the project for $172,853, which increased the total amount expended on the contract to $1,133,993. After the acceptance of the work, filing the Notice of Completion, and expiring the 35-day lien period, the retention amount of $56,699.65 will be released to the contractor. Any remaining funds will be returned to the CIP Fund.
BACKGROUND:
The pedestrian crosswalks at Valley and 17th Street (midblock crossing in front of the Joslyn Community Center), Ardmore Avenue and 17th Street, Valley Drive and 18th Street (midblock crossing in front of the Live Oak Park playground), and Ardmore Avenue and 18th Street were uncontrolled crossings along the major routes for people traveling within and through Manhattan Beach.
