RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends City Council consider adoption of Resolution 12-6404 urging members of Congress to pass and the White House to sign legislation to avert across-the-board Fiscal Year 2013 sequestration cuts and to come together to develop a long-term budget compromise.
FISCAL IMPLICATIONS:
None.
BACKGROUND:
In August 2011, Congress passed the Budget Control Act of 2011 (BCA) which placed limits on federal spending via discretionary spending caps and included provisions for additional spending cuts in the amount of $1.2 trillion. In January 2013, the additional cuts are scheduled to take effect via an automatic process.
