Recommended Action
RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends that the City Council award Bid #940-13 to Penske Toyota for the purchase of two Camry hybrid vehicles in the amount of $53,711.90.

FISCAL IMPLICATIONS:
Funds totaling $65,415 are budgeted in the FY 2013-2014 Fleet Management Fund for the purchase and equipping of these vehicles. The vehicles cost $53,711.90 - the remaining budgeted funds of $11,703.10 will be used to procure graphics and any other standard equipment necessary for these vehicles. The total cost is expected to be within the budgeted amount.

BACKGROUND:
The FY 2013-2014 budget includes the replacement of 44 vehicles in the City's fleet that need to be replaced in order to maintain service levels, reduce repair costs and provide for cost-effective fleet operations. The list represents "catch-up" years when the fleet was not actively replaced due to budget constraints. Where possible and practical, alternative fuel vehicles have been selected, with 8 such vehicles on the list.

DISCUSSION:
Budgeted replacement vehicles recommended for purchase include two Toyota Camry hybrid vehicles; one for the Public Works Department replacing a Honda Civic hybrid, and one for the Parks & Recreation Department for use as a citywide pool car (replacing a Ford Taurus). The vehicles specified have been researched for suitability for the intended purpose, and have been approved by the using departments and the City's fleet manager.
