RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends that the City Council review and approve the proposed Eagle Scout Service Project by Eagle Scout Candidate Aaron Sung (Troop 849) to install eco-friendly mile markers along the Manhattan Beach Greenbelt.
FISCAL IMPLICATIONS:
There is minimal fiscal impact on the City. The new mile markers will be purchased through troop fundraising. The Public Works Department will provide tools, such as wheelbarrows and shovels, as well as materials, including concrete. Staff support is limited to the removal of old markers, preparation of holes for new post installation, and oversight of installation of the new mile markers to ensure safety.
BACKGROUND:
The Boy Scouts of America Eagle Scout Service Project requires candidates to plan, develop, and provide leadership to others in a service project that benefits a community, school, or religious organization.
Eagle Scout Candidate Aaron Sung, of Troop 849, has proposed a community improvement project in partnership with the City of Manhattan Beach Public Works Department and Parks and Recreation Department to replace and install new mile markers along the Manhattan Beach Greenbelt.
The proposed project supports the City's commitment to sustainability, recreation, and public engagement, while enhancing community wayfinding and trail usability.
