Staff recommends that City Council receive and file this report.

FISCAL IMPLICATIONS:
Staff estimates that $50,000 will be required to develop the Street Tree Master Plan. There are sufficient funds in the FY 2014-2015 Operating Budget (100-18-032-5101) to fund this project. Final cost will be negotiated with selected consultant.

BACKGROUND:
This item was initially scheduled on the Consent Calendar for the September 2, 2014, City Council Meeting, but was postponed to a future meeting date. At the February 4, 2014, City Council meeting, staff presented the findings of the citywide street tree inventory. At the meeting, staff discussed and recommended that the City should undertake the preparation of a Street Tree Master Plan. The advantages discussed included providing a uniform approach to tree management for all trees in the public right-of-way, defining the comprehensive purpose and goals for a managed urban forest, and defining a comprehensive tree care maintenance program.

As a result, City Council directed staff to proceed with the preparation of a Request for Proposal (RFP) to develop a Street Tree Master Plan and present the RFP to City Council as a Receive and File item on a future Council agenda. Due to competing workload challenges, the preparation of this RFP was delayed until now.
