RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends that the City Council:
1) Formally accept as complete the Sprinturf, LLC construction agreement for the Marine Ave Park Synthetic Field Turf Replacement Project (Marine Turf Project);
2) Authorize the filing of the Notice of Completion with the County Recorder; and
3) Approve the release of retention of $25,071.90 to Sprinturf, LLC.
FISCAL IMPLICATIONS:
There are no fiscal implications associated with the recommended action. After acceptance of the work and filing the Notice of Completion, retention will be released to the contractor. Any remaining funds will be transferred to the unreserved Capital Improvement (CIP) Fund balance for use on a subsequent project.
BACKGROUND:
Marine Avenue Park is located at 1625 Marine Avenue. The park facilities include picnic and playground areas, restrooms, a community center, and a multi-purpose synthetic turf playing field. The playing field's area is approximately 72,500 square feet.
The natural grass field was converted to synthetic turf in 2013 and had an estimated lifespan between eight to 10 years per industry standards. Due to heavy use by the American Youth Soccer Organization (AYSO), club soccer groups, and other community members, the field deteriorated as expected and needed replacement.
