Recommended Action
RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that City Council approve by resolution the proposed salary range adjustment for Part-Time Recreation Leader II positions due to the mandated increase in the State of California's minimum wage which mandates an increase in the Part-Time Recreation Leader I salary schedule.
FISCAL IMPLICATIONS:
Adjusting Recreation Leader II salary schedule to maintain the appropriate separation between the Recreation Leader I and Recreation Leader II positions, results in an estimated cost increase of $16,200 for FY2015-2016.
BACKGROUND:
Effective January 1, 2016, the State of California raised the minimum wage to $10.00/hour. The only active part-time position that falls below the $10.00/hour is the Recreation Leader I position. By adjusting the Recreation Leader I position's salary schedule, it impacts the Recreation Leader II salary schedule. The last minimum wage increase was July 1, 2014 when the Council approved and adjusted the Recreation Leader I and Recreation Leader II salary schedules.
DISCUSSION:
The City is required to pay all positions the legal minimum wage. The only active part-time position below $10.00/hour minimum wage is the Recreation Leader I position. Staff is recommending a revised salary schedule for the Recreation Leader II position as the positions are in a related classification series.
The current salary schedules for the Recreation Leader I/II series are as follows:
Recreation Leader I
