Recommended Action
RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends that the City Council:
a) Award bid #913-13 to Volvo Construction Equipment in the amount of $41,362.23 for the budgeted replacement of a skid steer loader; and
b) appropriate $6,365 from Unreserved Fleet Management Fund balance to offset the budget shortfall.

FISCAL IMPLICATIONS:
Funds totaling $35,000 are budgeted in the fiscal year 2012-2013 Fleet Management Fund for the purchase of this equipment. The total purchase price is $41,362.23, which is $6,362.23 over budget. Sufficient funds ($6,365) are available for appropriation in the Fleet Management Fund balance to complete the purchase.

BACKGROUND:
The Fiscal Year 2012-2013 budget includes the replacement of 61 vehicles in the City’s fleet. The list includes a wide variety of vehicles and equipment that need to be replaced in order to maintain service levels, reduce repair costs and provide for cost-effective fleet operations. The list represents several “catch-up” years when the fleet was not actively replaced due to budget constraints. Where possible and practical, alternative fuel vehicles have been selected, with eight such vehicles on the list replacing traditional fuel vehicles.

DISCUSSION:
This purchase is for a replacement for a 2002 Bobcat (unit #864). This vehicle is beyond its useful life; maintenance has increased and the vehicle is no longer economical to repair. This unit has required over $15,...
