Staff recommends that the City Council receive this report.

There are no fiscal implications associated with the recommended action.
 
BACKGROUND:
At its regular meeting on July 2, 2013, the City Council approved an agreement and allocated $100,000 in the fiscal year (FY) 2013-2014 to fund economic activities that are sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce.
 
DISCUSSION:
Three main tasks are identified in the agreement, followed by deliverables, timeline, and estimated cost. The three tasks are:
 
1.      Create partnerships with the local business community to facilitate the City's economic development. Work with the City and local businesses to increase business attraction and retention.
a.      Identify business development opportunities.
b.      Facilitate leakage study and develop recommendations.
c.      Host Economic Forum.
2.      Develop Manhattan Beach Visitors Bureau to promote the City as the premier destination in Southern California.
a.      Enhance the website for visitors and business.
b.      Develop and distribute promotional video.
c.      Finalize Visitors Bureau.
3.      Promote and implement economic development of Manhattan Beach by increasing visits from business travelers and visitors.
a.      Attend trade shows.
b.      Host local concierge event.
c.      Develop software for mobile viewing of Chamber website.
 
As part of the agreement, the Manhattan Beach Chamber of Commerce is required to provide two status reports to the City Council on the "Scope of Services." The first status report was received by the City Council on November 19, 2013. This second status report was originally on the May 6, 2014 Council agenda but was continued at the request of the Chamber of Commerce. The attached Power Point presentation (Attachment 1) serves as the second status report.
 
CONCLUSION:
Staff recommends that the City Council receive this report.
