Recommended Action

RECOMMENDATION:

Staff recommends that the Board of Directors of the Manhattan Beach Capital Improvements Corporation appoint newly elected City Councilmembers Nina Tarnay and Steve Charelian to fill the Boardmember seats currently occupied by City Councilmembers/Boardmembers Steve Napolitano and Richard Montgomery.

FISCAL IMPLICATIONS:

There are no fiscal implications associated with the recommended action.

BACKGROUND:

The Manhattan Beach Capital Improvements Corporation (CIC) was formed in 1996 to facilitate issuance of debt for improvements to the water and wastewater system. It has been used since then as the conduit for a number of debt issues including the Police/Fire Facility, Metlox improvements, Marine Avenue Sports Fields and Fire Station No. 2.  City Councilmembers serve as CIC Boardmembers.

DISCUSSION:

At the recent municipal election on November 5, 2024, the City electors elected Nina Tarnay and Steve Charelian, to fill two City Council seats.  Steve Napolitano and Richard Montgomery have termed out and Joe Franklin ran as an incumbent.  Accordingly, staff recommends that the City Council appoint Nina Tarnay and Steve Charelian to fill the seats occupied by Steve Napolitano and Richard Montgomery.
