Body

FISCAL IMPLICATIONS:

There are no fiscal implications associated with the recommended action.

BACKGROUND:

The purpose of the 2026 meeting calendars is to provide the City Council, staff, and the public with advance notice of proposed meeting dates.

DISCUSSION:

Per Municipal Code Section 2.01.020, staff outlined a meeting schedule for 2026 with regular City Council meetings held on the first and third Tuesday of the month.

The proposed dates have been scheduled taking into consideration additional non-regular City Council meetings (Development Impact Fees Meeting, Annual City Council Work Plan meeting, Annual Boards and Commissions Interviews, and the Budget and Capital Improvements Program (CIP) Study Sessions).  Additionally, staff is including the cancellation of the January 6, 2026, City Council Regular Meeting, and the rescheduled November 3, 2026, City Council Regular Meeting to Wednesday, November 4, 2026, in observance of the November 3, 2026, General Municipal Elections.

The Planning Commission meets the second and fourth Wednesday of the month.  The proposed calendar includes the dates for 2026.

The Parking and Public Improvements Commission meets the fourth Thursday of the month.  The proposed calendar includes the rescheduled date for the November 6, 2026, and the December 24, 2026, meeting dates to December 3, 2026, in observance of both Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays.

The Parks and Recreation Commission meets the fourth Monday of the month.  The proposed calendar includes the rescheduled meeting of May 25, 2026, to May 26, 2026, in observance of Memorial Day and the cancellation of the August 24, 2026, and the December 28, 2026, commission meetings.

The Library Commission meets the second Monday of the month.  The proposed calendar includes the rescheduled meeting of October 12, 2026, rescheduled to October 13, 2026, in observance of Columbus Day/Indigenous People Day, and the cancellation of the August 10, 2026, and the December 14, 2026, commission meetings.

The Cultural Arts Commission meets the third Monday of the month.  The proposed calendar includes the following changes: the January 19, 2026, rescheduled to January 21, 2026, in observance of Martin Lurther King Jr. Day; the February 16, 2026, rescheduled to February 18, 2026, in observance of Presidents Day, and the cancellation of the August 17, 2026, and December 21, 2026, commission meetings.

It is important to note that the tentative calendar is a fluid document that serves as an ongoing reference guide, and that meeting dates are frequently added and then re-scheduled. It is recommended that the City Council keep Tuesday evenings available so that closed sessions or study sessions can be scheduled as the need arises.
