Recommended Action
RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends that the City Council receive and file Southern California Edison’s 2018 Circuit Reliability Review report (Attachment) for the City of Manhattan Beach.
BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION:
Southern California Edison (SCE) is the sole utility provider of electricity for the City of Manhattan Beach. The company operates 16 circuits and an extensive network of transmission and distribution lines, transformers and substations that serve power to the City’s nearly 36,000 residents.
SCE’s representative, Vic Nol, will present to City Council an overview of SCE’s grid reliability in Manhattan Beach (Attachment). This information includes historical reliability data for providing power through its circuits, as well as SCE’s proposed infrastructure upgrades planned for the coming year. A summary of both momentary and sustained outages and their causes will be highlighted as part of this presentation.
PUBLIC OUTREACH:
After analysis, staff determined that public outreach was not required for this issue.
ENVIRONMENTAL REVIEW:
The City has reviewed the proposed activity for compliance with the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) and has determined that the activity is not a “Project” as defined under Section 15378 of the State CEQA Guidelines; therefore, pursuant to Section 15060(c)(3) of the State CEQA Guidelines the activity is not subject to CEQA. Thus, no environmental review is necessary.
