Recommended Action
RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends that the City Council approve an agreement for the Manhattan Beach Police Department to provide law enforcement officers on an overtime basis to the City of Hermosa Beach, as requested by Hermosa Beach and as feasible in light of the City’s own staffing needs.

FISCAL IMPLICATIONS:
There is no net fiscal implication, as all costs associated with providing law enforcement services to the City of Hermosa Beach will be fully reimbursed by Hermosa Beach at premium overtime rates, inclusive of workers compensation costs.
BACKGROUND:
Law enforcement agencies often work cooperatively to provide police aid across jurisdictional boundaries in certain emergencies. This increases our agency’s ability to ensure public safety and protect the general welfare of our community. Manhattan Beach has a mutual aid agreement with all agencies in the South Bay region (Area G). Area G cities include Manhattan Beach, El Segundo, Gardena, Hawthorne, Hermosa Beach, Inglewood, Lawndale, Lomita, Palos Verdes Estates, Rancho Palos Verdes, Redondo Beach, Rolling Hills Estates, Rolling Hills, and Torrance. When the need arises, our agencies share the use of our police forces, equipment, and resources.
DISCUSSION:
Manhattan Beach has a close working relationship with Hermosa Beach, calling upon one another when staffing and resources are not sufficient to handle an incident.
