RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends that the City Council participate in the introduction of new employees, recognition of employee promotions, and presentation of commemorative certificates to employees who have completed 15 or more years of service to the City.

FISCAL IMPLICATION:
There are no fiscal implications associated with the recommended actions.

BACKGROUND:
Employees are the organization’s most important asset. These are the people that breathe life into Council’s budget priorities, who maintain the website, put out fires, catch thieves, enforce zoning ordinances, fill potholes, and otherwise perform all those functions that the community demands.

The City has a tradition of welcoming new employees by introducing them at Council meetings. This gives new employees an opportunity to meet City Council Members and Department Heads and experience firsthand how Council meetings are conducted at the City. This tradition also includes recognizing promoted employees and presenting commemorative certificates to long-term City employees.

New Employees
Brett Barkley joins the Public Works Department as a Maintenance Worker. Prior to joining the City, Brett worked with his father at Barkley Plumbing as a plumber. After attending Wyotech Trade School and gaining experience in his family’s business, Brett created and opened his own welding and fabrication business. He has also worked in construction and comes fully prepared for the position of Maintenance Worker with the Public Works department.
