RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends that the City Council authorize the City Manager to:
a) Approve the issuance of a final payment in the net amount of $71,901.90 to John S. Meek Company for the Manhattan Beach Pier Localized Structural Rehabilitation Project;
b) Formally accept the Manhattan Beach Pier Localized Structural Rehabilitation Project as complete; and,
c) Authorize filing of the appropriate Notice of Completion and the release of retention in the amount of $26,536.37.

FISCAL IMPLICATIONS:
City Council appropriated State Pier and Parking Funds in the amount of $500,000 for this project through the fiscal year 2011-2012 Capital Improvement Plan. See Attachment 1, Tables 1, 2 and 3 for tabulated budget, expenditure and change order details. A summary of project funding and expenditures is as follows:

BACKGROUND:
The Manhattan Beach Pier is a reinforced concrete recreational structure constructed between 1917 and 1920. In the 1950s, the County of Los Angeles completed a major repair project where pneumatically placed concrete was placed on areas showing deterioration.
